Axum

It quickly became a powerful state due to its strategic location along trade routes connecting Africa, Arabia, and the Roman Empire. The city of Axum served as the capital. One of the significant developments in Axum’s history was the adoption of Christianity. King Ezana, in the early 4th century CE, is traditionally credited with converting to Christianity, making Aksum one of the earliest Christian states in the world. Axum is renowned for its stelae, large obelisks made of stone. These stelae served various purposes, including marking royal tombs and representing the power and prestige of the Aksumite rulers. The most famous is the obelisk of Aksum, which stands over 75 feet tall.
